Why does my music stop when the screen turns off?

Short answer: it is Android’s battery optimization closing the app in the background — not a fault in Audify. Allow the app to run in the background (Settings → Apps → Audify → Battery → Unrestricted) and playback continues with the screen off.

How to fix itWhy some phones do thisCommon questions

How to fix it in 5 steps

  1. 1. Open Android Settings → Apps → Audify. Go to your phone’s system settings, not the app’s — you are changing how Android treats Audify in the background.
  2. 2. Set Battery to Unrestricted. Under Battery (or “Battery usage”), choose Unrestricted or “Don’t optimize” so the system stops closing Audify to save power.
  3. 3. On Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo or Huawei, allow Autostart. These brands are aggressive: also enable Autostart for Audify and lock it in the recent-apps screen so it isn’t killed.
  4. 4. Accept Audify’s background prompt. If Audify asks for permission to run in the background when you first hit this, allow it — it is the same setting from inside the app.
  5. 5. Test with the screen off. Play a song, lock the phone, and wait. Playback should now continue uninterrupted.

Why some phones do this

Android and many manufacturers close background apps to save battery. On stock Android it is mild, but Xiaomi (MIUI), Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and some Samsung phones are far more aggressive and will stop a music player within minutes unless you exempt it.

Audify’s playback service is built to keep going with the screen off — once the system allows it to run, the problem disappears. It is a one-time setting.

Common questions

Why does my music stop when the screen turns off?

Android battery optimization is closing Audify in the background. Setting the app’s battery usage to Unrestricted (Settings → Apps → Audify → Battery) fixes it.

Which phones cause this most?

Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and some Samsung devices are the most aggressive. They often also need Autostart enabled and the app locked in recent apps.

Will keeping it running drain my battery?

Playing music always uses some power, but a music player running in the background is lightweight. The battery cost of uninterrupted playback is small.
