Why does my music stop when I leave the app on a Motorola moto g?

Short answer: on a moto g, music usually stops when you leave Audify because the phone limits apps that run in the background, and having Battery Saver off doesn't lift those limits. Allow Audify in three places: its own Settings → Background Playback (if it's there), the phone's App battery usage → Unrestricted, and the Motorola control your model has: Battery → Manage background apps (Always allow), System → Performance → Background app management (on) or Battery → App standby optimizer (App optimized off). If it still stops with all of that set, the cause isn't your settings: send us a report from Audify's Send Feedback.

Step 1: Give Audify permission in its own settings

  1. 1. Open More → Settings in Audify. If Android still limits Audify, a Background Playback section sits at the top of the screen, with the row Issue with background playback?. If it isn't there, Android already lets Audify run in the background, so go on to step 2.
  2. 2. Tap Issue with background playback? Android's battery optimization list opens, and Audify shows a hint to search for Audify Music Player and turn it off. It means the optimization, not the app: find Audify Music Player in the list, switch its battery optimization off, then go back.
  3. 3. Or use the banner above your songs. If Audify shows Trouble playing songs in the background? above your songs, its Give Permission button opens the same list.

Step 2: Set the phone's App battery usage to Unrestricted

  1. 1. Open the phone's Settings → Apps → See all apps. This is your phone's Settings app, not Audify's. Choose Audify Music Player in the list.
  2. 2. Tap App battery usage. It's on Audify Music Player's page in Settings.
  3. 3. Turn on Allow background usage, then tap the words. The switch alone isn't the whole setting: tapping the option itself opens the choice between Optimized and Unrestricted. Choose Unrestricted.
  4. 4. On older phones, remove any background restriction. On Android 11 and earlier the screens are arranged differently. On Audify Music Player's page in Settings → Apps, look under Battery, which can sit inside Advanced, and if you see a background restriction, remove it.

Step 3: Allow Audify in Motorola's own background controls

  1. 1. Find out which controls your phone has. Motorola adds its own limits on top of Android's, and which ones you have depends on the model and the Android version. Type each name below into the search box at the top of Settings and set every one your phone has. The names are from Motorola's help pages as of October 2026.
  2. 2. Manage background apps: choose Always allow. Go to Settings → Battery → Manage background apps, tap Background use → Smart use, select Audify Music Player and choose Always allow. Leave Manage background apps itself on: Always allow is the exception for Audify. Motorola's help shows it on the moto g05, moto g15 and moto g35 5G, among others.
  3. 3. Background app management: turn Audify on. Go to Settings → System → Performance → Background app management and turn on Audify Music Player. Motorola explains that this feature boosts the app you're using by restricting other apps from running in the background, which is how music stops the moment you open another app. It's on the moto g05, moto g06 power and moto g15.
  4. 4. App standby optimizer: turn App optimized off. Go to Settings → Battery → App standby optimizer, select Audify Music Player and turn App optimized off. Then set Standby sleep optimization, for when the screen is off, and Standby wakeup optimization, for when it's on, to No Optimize. Motorola documents it on the moto g35 5G and the moto e14.
  5. 5. Test it. Play a song, open another app, lock the phone and wait a few minutes. If the music is still playing, you're done.

Battery Saver, Adaptive Battery and other things to check

Battery Saver is a different switch. Many moto g owners tell us Battery Saver is already off and the music still stops. The limits in steps 2 and 3 apply to each app even with Battery Saver off, so check them anyway.

Adaptive Battery can stay on. Motorola recommends keeping it on. Google explains that an app whose battery optimization is turned off can run more while you're not using it, even when Adaptive Battery is on, so steps 1 and 2 already cover it.

Leaving Audify, or swiping it away, is fine. Audify keeps playing through a background service when you switch apps, lock the screen or swipe it off the recent apps screen. If the music stops the moment you do one of those, one of the phone's limits above is closing Audify.

If it pauses only when another app makes a sound, such as a video, a voice message or a game, that's Android's audio focus, not the battery. Turn on Play together with other apps in Audify's Settings; why music pauses when another app plays sound explains it.

Improve battery while inactive. dontkillmyapp.com, a site that tracks how phone makers close background apps, reports this option under Settings → Battery on some newer Motorola phones and says it can close apps even when it's switched off. If your phone has it, turn it off, and if the music still stops, tell us your model.

If the music still stops, it isn't your settings

If Audify still stops when you switch apps or lock the screen with all of this set, your settings aren't the cause, and we want to hear about it. In Audify, open More → Settings → Send Feedback. It starts an email to feedback@audifyplayer.com with your phone model, Android version and Audify version already filled in, so keep those lines.

Add when the music stops (when you open another app, when the screen turns off, or after a few minutes), whether it began after an update, and which of the settings above your phone has. We read every report. We can't promise a fix or a date, but a report with the phone model and versions is what lets the app team reproduce the stop on the same phone.

Common questions

Why does my music stop when I open another app on my Motorola?

Your phone limits apps that run in the background. On the moto g05, moto g06 power and moto g15, Settings → System → Performance → Background app management restricts other apps while you use one: turn Audify Music Player on there. Then set its App battery usage to Unrestricted, and if your phone has Settings → Battery → Manage background apps, choose Always allow for Audify.

Battery Saver is off. Why does Audify still stop?

Battery Saver is a separate switch. App battery usage, Manage background apps, Background app management and App standby optimizer limit each app even when Battery Saver is off, so allow Audify in each one your phone has.

Do I need to turn off Adaptive Battery?

No. Motorola recommends keeping Adaptive Battery on, and an app whose battery optimization is turned off can still run in the background while Adaptive Battery is on.

What should I send if the music still stops?

In Audify, open More → Settings → Send Feedback. The email it starts already includes your phone model, Android version and Audify version. Add when the music stops and which settings you changed, then send it to feedback@audifyplayer.com.
