Why does my music stop when the screen turns off on a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone?
Short answer: on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones, music usually stops when the screen turns off or you leave Audify because HyperOS and MIUI limit apps in the background to save battery. Allow Audify in four places: its own Settings → Background Playback (if it's there), its battery setting in the phone's Settings (No restrictions), Background autostart (on), and the recent apps screen, where you lock Audify. If it still stops with all of that set, the cause isn't your settings: send us a report from Audify's Send Feedback.
Step 1: Give Audify permission in its own settings
- 1. Open More → Settings in Audify. If Android still limits Audify, a Background Playback section sits at the top of the screen, with the row Issue with background playback?. If it isn't there, Android already lets Audify run in the background, so go on to step 2.
- 2. Tap Issue with background playback? Android's battery optimization list opens, and Audify shows a hint to search for Audify Music Player and turn it off. It means the optimization, not the app: find Audify Music Player in the list, switch its battery optimization off, then go back. If your phone opens its main Settings screen instead, go on to step 2.
- 3. Or use the banner above your songs. If Audify shows Trouble playing songs in the background? above your songs, its Give Permission button opens the same list.
Step 2: Set Audify's battery setting to No restrictions
- 1. Open the phone's Settings → Apps and choose Audify Music Player. This is your phone's Settings app, not Audify's. HyperOS and MIUI keep their own battery limit for each app, separate from the list in step 1.
- 2. Open its battery setting and choose No restrictions. The row's name depends on the phone and on the HyperOS or MIUI version. Whatever it's called, choose No restrictions, so the phone stops limiting Audify while the screen is off.
- 3. On newer phones, you can start from Battery. For the Xiaomi 15 with HyperOS 2, Xiaomi's help gives another route: Settings → Battery, scroll down to Audify Music Player, tap it and choose No restrictions.
Step 3: Turn on Background autostart for Audify
- 1. Open Settings → Apps → Background autostart. That's where Xiaomi's HyperOS 3 user guides put it. On earlier versions, Xiaomi's help for the Redmi 13C and the Xiaomi 14T Pro puts it under Settings → Apps → Permissions, and on some phones the switch is also on Audify Music Player's own page. If you can't find it, type autostart into the search box at the top of Settings.
- 2. Turn Audify Music Player on. Xiaomi's help says to keep Background autostart on for the apps you rely on, and its own checklist for apps that must keep running in the background includes this switch, together with No restrictions and locking the app.
Step 4: Lock Audify on the recent apps screen
- 1. Open the recent apps screen. It's the screen that shows the apps you've used lately, as cards.
- 2. Press and hold Audify's card, then tap the lock icon. This is how Xiaomi's help describes it; on some phones you drag the card down instead. dontkillmyapp.com, a site that tracks how phone makers close background apps, reports that a locked app isn't cleared from the background even when you clear the recent apps screen.
- 3. Test it. Play a song, open another app, lock the phone and wait a few minutes. If the music is still playing, you're done.
Battery saver and other things to check
Battery saver and Ultra battery saver limit every app. Both modes limit what apps can do in the background, and Xiaomi's own checklist for apps that must keep running starts by turning both off in Settings → Battery. If the music stops only while one of them is on, that's the mode doing its job.
Battery saver being off isn't enough on its own. The phone-wide mode is one switch, and each app has its own battery setting as well. That's why step 2 sets Audify's own setting to No restrictions even when Battery saver is off.
Leaving Audify is fine once it's allowed. Audify keeps playing through a background service when you switch apps or lock the screen. If the music stops the moment you do, one of the phone's limits above is closing Audify.
If it pauses only when another app makes a sound, such as a video, a voice message or a game, that's Android's audio focus, not the battery. Turn on Play together with other apps in Audify's Settings; why music pauses when another app plays sound explains it.
If the music still stops, it isn't your settings
If Audify still stops when you switch apps or lock the screen with all of this set, your settings aren't the cause, and we want to hear about it. In Audify, open More → Settings → Send Feedback. It starts an email to feedback@audifyplayer.com with your phone model, Android version and Audify version already filled in, so keep those lines.
Add when the music stops (when you open another app, when the screen turns off, or after a few minutes), whether it began after an update, and which of the settings above you changed. We read every report. We can't promise a fix or a date, but a report with the phone model and versions is what lets the app team reproduce the stop on the same phone.
Common questions
Why does my music stop when the screen turns off on my Xiaomi or Redmi?
HyperOS and MIUI limit apps in the background to save battery. Set Audify Music Player's battery setting to No restrictions, turn on its Background autostart and lock it on the recent apps screen. Xiaomi's own help lists the same steps for apps that must keep running in the background.
Battery saver is off. Why does Audify still stop?
Battery saver is one switch for the whole phone, and each app also has its own battery setting. Set Audify's to No restrictions, turn on Background autostart and lock Audify in Recents, even with Battery saver off.
Why should I lock Audify in Recents?
Clearing the recent apps screen can close apps in the background, music included. A locked app isn't cleared with the others: press and hold Audify's card in Recents and tap the lock icon.
What should I send if the music still stops?
In Audify, open More → Settings → Send Feedback. The email it starts already includes your phone model, Android version and Audify version. Add when the music stops and which settings you changed, then send it to feedback@audifyplayer.com.
